The last photo from Bill Derouin's collection from 1952. Word has it that Lipan's bow spent so much time under water while out to sea that her sailors should have drawn submarine duty pay. Maybe that's why Bill switched to the submarine service after his tour aboard Lipan. Bill stayed in the Navy as a career sailor aboard subs and retired in 1969 with 20 years of service to his country.  If you would like to see more of Bill's life in the navy click the link at the bottom of the page to his son's website.
